Dr. Christy Duan, MD, child, adolescent, & adult psychiatrist in New York City, NY

At Zea Psychiatry, we believe that every life is sacred. Our personalized, holistic approach to mental healthcare aspires to be revitalizing and "life-giving." By distilling mental health into essential components, our mission is to support you in gaining the insights and tools to wake up to your full potential and cultivate a meaningful, satisfying life. I first came to New York for my medical school interview at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and immediately fell in love with the city's diversity, energy, and authenticity — qualities I've built my practice around ever since.

Each of our clinicians approaches the art and science of child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry from a stance of reverence and curiosity. We're honored to work with our telehealth (virtual) patients from every corner of New York State and every walk of life, and we strive to create a space where you can show up fully and authentically. It is our firm belief that every single person has an innate capacity for growth, healing, and radical transformation. Learn more about Zea, explore our services, or book an introductory call. We look forward to working with you!

Our Dynamic & Holistic Approach

At Zea Psychiatry, we understand that mental health is complex. That's why our holistic psychiatry experts distill it into essential components of the biopsychosocial model developed by Dr. George Engel, MD. The biopsychosocial model recognizes that both illness and health is the consequence of the dynamic interplay between biological, psychological, and social factors. This holistic framework and our highly individualized approach allows us to customize your treatment plan and address the root causes of your distress.

Biological factors include physical health, genetic factors, neurochemistry, physiology, stress response, and immune function.

Psychological factors include thoughts, emotions, behaviors, self-esteem, attitudes, beliefs, coping mechanisms, social skills, personality, and trauma.

Social factors include environmental impacts, family systems, relationship dynamics, social identities, cultural affiliations, educational background, support systems, and systems of privilege and oppression.

How Telehealth Psychiatric Care Works

All virtual appointments take place over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, such as Zoom, over a private WiFi or cellular network — public WiFi isn't recommended, as it isn't fully confidential. You'll just need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and a reliable internet connection.

Please note: all Zea Psychiatry clinicians are licensed in New York State, so patients must be physically located in New York State at the time of their telehealth appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is telepsychiatry and what are the benefits of virtual care?

Telepsychiatry is a form of telehealth that allows you to access psychiatric care through a secure audio-video platform, with network and software security protocols in place to protect patient confidentiality. Virtual psychiatric care has become a well-established, widely used way to receive treatment, and for many patients it offers real practical advantages:

  • No commute or travel time — appointments fit around your day, not the other way around

  • Fewer missed or rescheduled visits, since illness, weather, or transit delays are less likely to get in the way — which supports more consistent, continuous care over time

  • Access to the same clinicians and clinical rigor, regardless of which part of New York State you're in

  • A private, familiar setting — for many patients, meeting from home makes it easier to speak openly

Do I need to be located in New York State for my appointment?
Yes. All Zea Psychiatry clinicians are licensed in New York, and patients must be physically present in New York State at the time of a telehealth visit.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes! Zea Psychiatry is accepting new patients for child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry, and we have same week availability.
